Lando Norris, a McLaren F1 driver, is COVID-19 positive and is currently self-quarantining in Dubai.

Norris is currently in the United Arab Emirates on vacation prior to an upcoming training camp, but was tested for COVID-19 on Monday after recognizing some symptoms.

In a statement, McLaren confirmed that Norris had tested positive and would self-quarantine for the next two weeks.

“McLaren can confirm that Lando Norris tested positive for COVID-19 in Dubai yesterday. Dubai is currently on vacation prior to the upcoming training camp,” the statement said. Stated.

“After recognizing the loss of taste and smell, he was immediately tested and notified to the team. According to local regulations, he is currently self-quarantined at the hotel for 14 days.

“He is currently feeling good and has not reported any other symptoms.”

Norris is the fourth F1 driver to test positive for COVID-19.

Racing Point driver Sergio Perez was forced to miss two races last year after being infected with the virus prior to the British Grand Prix. Meanwhile, teammate Lance Stroll tested positive after withdrawing from the Nürburgring weekend.

“Yesterday I lost my sense of taste and smell, so I immediately quarantined myself and took the test,” Norris wrote in a social media message.

“It’s back as positive, so I’m in touch and telling everyone that I’ll be quarantined for the next 14 days.

“I feel okay and I have no other symptoms, but I just wanted to let you know. Be careful.”

F1 drivers have undergone rigorous testing throughout the 2020 season as part of the series’ protocol to ensure that the Grand Prix can be staged in a safe way.

While not subject to these rigorous FIA guidelines during the off-season, many drivers have talked about the need to be safe and ready for the winter. Not affected.
