Northern Iowa farmers finish harvest
Casey Schrichting, a farmer in north-central Iowa, has recently finished harvesting.
“I had a couple of hiccups on the combine, but nothing burned for a day or anything. It worked very well.”
Clear Lake corn and soybean growers say brownfield yields exceeded his expectations.
“It was a nice surprise because it didn’t rain in June and July.”
Throughout the state, the USDA has pegged that it has completed 60% of its corn harvest in Iowa. This is a week earlier than the five-year average, with farmers in northeastern and central Iowa lagging behind.
For soybeans, the harvest is 6 days earlier than usual, 83% complete.
Other activities of the week included autumn tillage and fertilizer application.
