Earlier this year, Nvidia promised to release a new inventory of older GPUs, but current-generation cards are still plagued by shortages. The Verge reports that it has released a new RTX 2060 with 12GB of video RAM, doubling the 2060 originally released in 2019.
The re-release aims to provide more affordable options for gamers who may have difficulty finding affordable cards in the secondary market as well. The RTX 2060 may have been chosen to be re-released first because it doesn’t contain the same components that are rumored to be causing manufacturing bottlenecks in new hardware.
Nvidia states that the new 2060 card should be available starting December 7, but so far no pricing has been given. In a statement to The Verge, the company stated that the price of the new card is likely to be higher than the initial release price of the RTX 2060, which is $ 349. “This is a premium version of the RTX 2060 6GB and we expect it to be reflected in the price,” a spokeswoman said.
The specifications for the new Founders Edition RTX 2060 can be found here. In addition to boosted video RAM, this card also sees some minor improvements in the 2019 version, including faster base clock speeds and more CUDA cores.
