What is your company’s profile, its mission, and important aspects of a strong scaffolding in the semiconductor industry?

Omega Optics A company located in Austin, Texas. It is a high-tech research company focused on silicon and III-V based photonic chips for a variety of applications such as interconnects, computing and biochemical sensing. We are a Silicon Photonics IC design company with chips manufactured by AIM, IMEC, GLOBALFOUNDRIES, etc. We have approximately 30 US patents covering RF photonics, Silicon Labs on-chip biosensors, spectroscopic sensing, and optical computing.

Describe a top-notch product that meets your customer’s needs. There is an open platform.

There is a TRL level 6 lab-on-a-chip sensing platform defined by NASA. It can be used to detect COVID-19 biomarkers using silicon photonic chips. Higher sensitivity without compromising specificity. It is an open platform suitable for the detection of various biomarkers such as breast, lung and pancreatic cancers and for various antibiotics.

Why is your company the preferred choice among customers over other competitors?

While other systems such as Genalyte and GE are desktop systems, we have built a portable biosensing system. You can bring your biosensing system to remote or primitive areas. That is, instead of taking the patient to the hospital, you can take the hospital to the patient. In addition, our unique patent portfolio allows us to provide better sensing sensitivity without compromising specificity. Finally, this is a lab-on-a-chip open sensing system suitable for all biomarker detection.

Please explain the values ​​that drive your organization.

There are about 30 patents that protect inventions. And we will continue to raise the reputation of the company. Our dream is to display the device invented in our laboratory in your living room in the future, greatly improving the quality of life. We plan to raise private funding or through an early stage IPO to raise the funding needed for commercialization.

Undoubtedly, technology plays an important role in almost every sector. How are you leveraging technological advances to make your solution witty?

The patented lab-on-a-chip sensor on the silicon platform has two advantages.

  1. The chip is made of cost-effective, mass-producible silicon CMOS.
  2. The biosensing platform is an open platform suitable for detecting all types of biomarkers. There are already patents and publications covering the detection of many biomarkers.

In your opinion, what is the future of the semiconductor market after the COVID-19 pandemic? And how do you plan your company’s business for that future?

It will continue to flourish as more state-of-the-art systems require both electronics and photonics silicon chips as propulsion. And the current shortage in the supply chain of silicon chips for the high-tech industry underscores the importance of the semiconductor industry.
