Oregon’s local news station mistakes a screenshot of nature photography Red Dead

As video games become more and more realistic, it becomes difficult for untrained eyes to distinguish between screenshots and real photos. The latest victim of this mistake has posted a stunning Red Dead Redemption 2 screenshot in the “Out & About” nature photography segment on NewsChannel 21, a local news station in Oregon.

This image first appeared on Reddit, and the father of the counterfeiter proudly shared the catch. “My daughter sent another photo to our local TV station … from Red Dead Redemption 2 for their” Out & About “segment …”, the post reads. “And again, they fell into it!”

The screenshots are still present in the segment videos posted on the NewsChannel 21 YouTube channel, and we have accumulated a lot of comments that we enjoy including the screenshots.

Apparently the criminal did this before (and avoided it), but this is the only case that has ever surfaced. Still, if you’re looking for a previous slip-up, you’ll find an extensive archive of the Out & About segment on YouTube on the channel.

In the past, many news channels have mistaken screenshots for real photos and soaked in hot water. In one example, the news channel used a screenshot of Metal Gear Solid 5 in a story about child soldiers. In another example, the Danish news report showed a screenshot of Assassin’s Creed representing Syria. Yahoo News was also found explaining a report about Saturn in a screenshot from Destiny-despite the prominent inclusion of one of the game’s spacecraft in the foreground.
