Over 800 planned events at Thunder Hill – Motorsports

Willows, CA – Thunderhill Raceway Park, a multi-purpose track venue in Willows, California, will host more than 800 events next year on all six track surfaces of a 530-acre complex.

The bustling park should easily reach 330 event days on a 3-mile track and another 270 days on a 2-mile road course. In the 2021 season, there will be 225 events on the skid pad and 15 more special events on the rallycross and dirt road courses. This sums up over 800 events before 2021 appears in the book.

David Vodden, CEO of Thunderhill Raceway Park, said: “We spent 585 days on the road track and another 175 days on the pads and other surfaces.

“Last year, in the midst of COVID-19, we held 489 road course events, 194 skid pad events, and a few rallycross competitions,” added Vodden. “This was done in half of March, with all of April and part of May closed.”

Thunderhill serves the growing motorsport recreation market by renting road surfaces to a variety of clubs, groups and individuals. SCCA, National Auto Sport Ass’n, American Federation of Motorcycles, On Grid, Speed SF and many others rent Thunderhill for a few days. Approximately 40% of accommodation activities are related to motorcycles. This property is also a test facility hosted by an automotive engineering and R & D company in Silicon Valley.

The track will also host the 25-hour Thunder Hill, the longest endurance auto race in the Northern Hemisphere. Held in the first week of December, it is a joint venture between NASA and trucks. The Trans Am Series West Coast Championship is also featured at the venue.

Thunder Hill shares the Northern California market for recreational motorsport with Sonoma Raceway and the legendary WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca. The area has always been a hotbed for sports activities, including road trails and other cars and motorcycles.

There are eight road courses throughout California, including ROVAL at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, California, but the fate of the truck’s shrinkage is unknown. Buttonwillow Raceway, near Bakersfield, California, will open its second road course this year.
