This design is very similar to the depiction of the infamous serial killer Zodiac (as depicted in David Fincher’s 2007 thriller of the same name). The Zodiac Killer was active in the Bay Area in the 1960s and 1970s, killing five known victims and sending mysterious communications to local law enforcement agencies and journalists. The criminals were never arrested or caught in the film. Fincher’s work was drawn from the explanation given by Zodiac survivors to create costumes. The murderer was reported to be wearing a sack-like mask on his chest to hide the crosshair insignia and his features.
