Stefano Pioli praises Milan’s “heart, strength, passion and belief” after returning to the Serie A Summit after defeating Benevento 2-0 and playing for nearly an hour with 10 men Did.
Franck Kessié’s penalty took the visitor the lead in the first half with the Stadio Ciro Bigorito, but Milan opposed it with the dismissal of Sandro Tonali before the break.
Rafael Leão’s ingenious finish gave Milan a long-awaited two-goal cushion early in the second half, and Gianluca Caprari missed a spot kick on the other side of a futile host.
The victory was a great reaction to Intel’s 6-2 slashing of Crotone early on Sunday, temporarily kicking Milan out of the top.
However, Pioli was praised as his side led the way in points.
Despite all adversity, another victory!

“We have shown our heart, strength, passion and belief. That is another very big victory,” he told Sky Sports Italy.
“We do not allow the results of our opponents to put pressure on us. We put pressure on ourselves by demanding the best.
“There were some errors, but I showed such unity to bring back the results.
“All results are important for building self-belief.”
Tonali was shown a red card after inadvertently rushing into Arthur Ionita. Referee Fabrizio Pasqua upgraded the punishment from yellow after confirming the case on the pitchside monitor.
“I hugged Sandro in the locker room. He was sad to leave the team to 10 people,” Pioli said.
“The problem with VAR is that slowing down is much worse than the dynamics of movement, but Sandro will learn from now on.”
Next to Milan is the visit of champion Juventus, but Pioli argues that the results are not crucial in the title race.
“I think it will be a great match between the two teams in a great way,” he said.
“Juventus, Inter and Naples continue to say they are the strongest teams in Serie A. We must continue our path.
“It’s neither definitive nor the delivery of the baton. Juventus won the last nine titles and isn’t too late at this point.
“I continue to look at the April table and insist that we can talk about other things about whether we are still in this position. Our strength is one game at a time. I didn’t want to change that attitude because it was to take.
“There is a shortage of some important players. Tonali will be suspended and the match against Juventus will be tough. No matter what happens, it’s not decisive.”
