Plarium acquires Finnish mobile studio Futureplay and expands into casual games

The price has not been disclosed. Helsinki-based Futureplay has created games such as Merge Gardens, Battlelands Royale, and Idle Farming Empire. The transaction is expected to close at the end of August.

The two companies will share their knowledge, expertise and resources in an effort to extend Futureplay’s existing game catalog with casual games. Futureplay has released six games played by over 140 million users and has 2.1 million followers on its social media and community channels. Merge Gardens falls into the category of Simulation Merge, a fast-growing segment of the game. As a developer, Plarium is increasingly looking at the integration of casual elements in mid-core games, so working with Futureplay is a perfect deal, Steinhart said.

Futureplay CEO Jami Laes said in a statement that the collaboration would help enhance the company’s existing games and bring new services to players. Beyond resources and talent, Plarium shares a similar vision of maintaining a creative development environment where business growth does not interfere with his passion for gaming.

Plarium has over 20 mobile and PC games, including Raid: Shadow Legends, Vikings: War of Clans, Lost Island: Blast Adventure, and the Stormfall franchise. Aristo Craft Digital I bought Plarium for $ 500 million in 2017. Overall, Aristocraft has 2,300 employees and also owns Product Madness and Big Fish Games.
