Wildfire, a slow platformer whose fire is your best friend, will launch in the console this week. At the bite-sized level, you need to find the best way to move from one point to another while completing different missions.
Developed by Sneaky Bastards, the Stealth Side Crawler was originally launched on Steam in May and will be available on Nintendo Switch, PS4 and Xbox One on December 3rd. It costs $ 14.99 on all platforms.
A wildfire puts you in the shoes of a villager whose town is crunchy by the “malicious power” of a strange Amazon woman. You must find and save your friends captured by completing short, Celeste-like levels connected by a comprehensive story.
What makes Wildfire special is its combustion mechanism. Your character will be given special environmental powers, including the ability to control both water and fire. All levels are full of burning terrain like bushes, vines, wooden bridges, barricades and more. You can quietly pass through the level by hiding in the bushes and dodging enemies. Or you can burn the level without leaving any survivors. The game gives you a lot of choices about how you want to play.
As you progress, you’ll earn points that you can use to learn new abilities, such as the ability to bounce fire against walls and double-jump with flames. Levels will be more complex to suit your abilities. Other than technical issues, such as many slowdowns at certain points on the Nintendo Switch, there is no big difference between the console version and the PC version of the game.
Wildfire received high praise from critics in May for how dynamic the burning mechanics felt. Unlike other platformers, it’s a game full of fun little moments (you can play as a bobcat!).
