Bloomsburg, PA — SPEED SPORT has learned that Steve O’Neill, while acting as a promoter for the Port Royal Speedway, will promote a special event planned for the revived Bloomsburg Fairgrounds Raceway this year.

“Portroyal and Bloomsburg want to work together. Brian Wauroski, a member of the Bloomsburg Fair’s board of directors, said:” It’s permissible to carry Steve. No. Also, we don’t plan to race weekly like Port Royal. We mainly have special events. We plan to run 12-14 races a year. “

The race was held at the Bloomsburg Fair from the 1920s to the mid-1980s. The first race in more than 30 years will take place on May 29th when the USAC East Coast Sprint Car Series and ARDC Midget share cards on Bloomsburg’s new three-eighth mile dirt track doubleheader. ..

Having O’Neill’s expertise as a promoter will be a great advantage for racing in Bloomsburg, about 60 miles from Port Royal. The Port Royal Speedway operates every Saturday night.

O’Neill was awarded the Sprint Car Promoter of the Year for his five years at Port Royal. Voters include media members and industry leaders.

Last week, O’Neill and Port Royal Speedway were awarded the Region 1 Auto Racing Promoter of the Year at the RPM At Daytona Workshop.

This award is an additional addition he led to add value to Portroyal’s many improvements over the past few years, O’Neill’s fair treatment of teams and drivers, and the weekly program for Portroyal fans. The promotion was evaluated.

The new track, completed in Bloomsburg, will be a three-eighth mile clay oval within the existing 0.5 mile burnt track and will continue to be used for horse racing. The current grandstand with 5,500 seats will be used and additional bleachers will be added.

According to Wawroski, the project costs about $ 1 million and is funded by the fair and its sponsors. Two cars, driven by USAC’s Levi Jones and local driver Randy Mosteller, performed an exhibition lap on a new truck during Media Day on January 15th.
