Producers reduced their income and increased their payments in October

According to the USDA, producers earned less and paid more in October than in September.

The fall in corn, pigs, broilers and market eggs reduced the price index received by 1.7%, offsetting better profits from milk, sweet corn, lettuce and broccoli.

The dairy index in October 2021 rose 7.1% from September, but fell 1.5% from October 2020. Whole milk prices were $ 19.70 per 100 weights, rising $ 1.30 a month but falling $ 0.30 a year.

The price index paid increased by 0.8%, lowering the cost of feed grains, complete feed, dairy cows and concentrates, while increasing feeder cows, diesel, supplements and fertilizer mixes.

Each year, the index of prices received increased by 20% from October 2020, while the index of prices paid increased by 7.9%.
