PS5 backward compatibility: many Ubisoft games don’t work on PS5

Backward compatibility is an important thing these days when many of us buy games digitally. Of course, you don’t want to leave your game behind when migrating to a new console. This is a big part of Xbox marketing and Sony isn’t a bit keen on pushing it, but the PS5 is 99% backward compatible with PS4 and PSVR games.

That percentage hasn’t changed, but the number of PS4 and PSVR games that can’t be played on the PS5 has increased by just a handful. Ubisoft details cross-play and cross-progression features in a new blog post. There is a whisper announcement that some Ubisoft PS4 games, including some PSVR games, will not run on the PS5.

Ubisoft PS4 / PSVR games that don’t work on PS5

  • Assassin’s Creed Syndicate
  • Assassin’s Creed Chronicle Trilogy Pack
  • Assassin’s Creed Chronicles India
  • Assassin’s Creed Chronicles China
  • Assassin’s Creed Chronicle Russia
  • Risk, Star Trek Bridge Crew
  • Werewolves in
  • Space junkie

That’s a shame, but in reality, who is pinning to play the games on that list? It may be Assassin’s Creed Syndicate, but the rest, especially the Assassin’s Creed Chronicle game, hasn’t received so much fanfare anyway.

Still, it’s a shame that PS5 owners can’t have a complete collection of Assassin’s Creed titles on a single console. With the Xbox Series X | S, that’s not a problem, and older games from the PS3 / Xbox 360 era are also supported.

Maybe I can update it to run on PS5? Or does Ubisoft have its own plans for updates and remakes / remasters? Time will tell.
