Peripherals who were forced to stop selling custom PS5 faceplates are back with a new brand name and now claim to be “out of control”.
CMP Shells went on sale Monday and is currently selling a black “shell” for the PlayStation 5 disc console. The shell is priced at $ 49.99 and will ship in February, the company claims.
CMP was the latest version of the company, originally known as PlateStation 5, and was forced to change its brand name to CustomizeMyPlates.com in October. Later, due to suspected legal action threats from Sony, we completely withdrew the planned range of custom PS5 faceplates.
With a new list of black console shells, CMP addresses potential legal action issues directly. The company claims that Shell’s patent is pending, suggesting that what can be legally avoided has become wise.
“The patent is pending and all sales confirmed before it is approved are unmanageable,” the company said. “I didn’t know before. Now we do.”
He added: “In addition, we do not duplicate anyone’s proprietary design. Our shell improves the original by allowing more ventilation. It can be sold even after the patent is approved. Will be. “
CMP states that it will produce 1,000 shells in the first batch and claims to have sold twice as much as Customize My Plates in the last 24 hours.
In the previous format, the company claimed to be working with British and Chinese manufacturers to create faceplates. The faceplate is said to be made of “premium industry standard plastic” based on the officially released dimensions of PS5. I also tweeted the actual image of the faceplate.
Curiously, CMP states that every PS5 “shell” includes a free Ragnarok decal based on the God of War sequel. There is no mention in the list of how this inclusion avoided Sony’s anger.
Since CustomizeMyPlates.com withdrew its PS5 faceplate order, several other third-party peripherals have launched their own console shells.
Canadian peripherals company Dbrand recently announced that it would soon order its own black PS5 faceplate, rejecting the proposal that Sony could stop it.
When asked by Reddit users if they were afraid of legal action similar to Customize My Plates, Dbrand rejected the concept and wrote, “I encourage you to give it a try.” The caption of the Reddit post also says “Sue us, Sony”.
And earlier this month, third-party company SUP3R5 began pre-ordering a limited number of customized black PlayStation 5 consoles. However, the launch was disastrous and the company canceled all orders on suspicion of threatening staff.
Another peripheral company, Game Armor, began pre-ordering its PS5 faceplate last month. It’s available in matt black, red, and blue for an introduction price of $ 35.
Content creator Cptn Alex, who launched Game Armor in December, explained why he didn’t expect his company to stand behind Sony.
He writes: “Our name does not look like the trademark name, so the product does not contain the trademark logo, and the armor is designed differently so as not to infringe the design patent, so it can be sold safely. I will. “
