Former WWE star Ricardo Rodríguez, most commonly known as Alberto Del Rio’s personal ring announcer, recently appeared on AdFreeShows.com’s John Alba’s “One on One” podcast with life in Egypt. We talked about training wrestlers and how difficult it is. For him to move from a competitor in the ring to his character in WWE.
Below are the highlights:
About living in Egypt and training wrestlers:
“I live in Egypt. I’ve been there for a little over a year, 13 months. There’s an inside story about how that happened, all of which comes from living in India. When I lived in India, I opened an academy with Great Khali. I think we had great success there. WWE and Impact chased it. We WWE / Seeing what the Indian Spectacle Show they had, it all comes from that. So then I went back to America, went to England, and went to some countries. When Covid happened, It shut down everything. I know I’m not the only one who felt this way because it was my income for the last 12 years. What should I do when Covid happens? It was kind of confusing. About a year after Covid, I was finally called by an Egyptian man and asked if I wanted to redo what I did in India, which led me to Egypt. That’s why. “
How difficult it was for him to move from a rival in the ring to his character in WWE:
“The hardest part wasn’t necessarily the actual part of doing it. The hardest part was accepting. It was the hardest part because I was a wrestler and a serious wrestler. I was brought to be a speaker in a comedy role. It was the hardest part to accept. “Well, this is my ticket. I’m in these constant battles in myself. I still have them because I know people know me as Ricardo. Believe me, it gets it every time I get in touch with a promoter It still takes a long time to get in. Even now, “Oh, I didn’t know you could be a wrestler.” I’m like f ** k man, training your champion, or wrestling with your champion. “
