SBI’s Top 5 Philadelphia Union Goals for 2020 – Soccer Sports

The Philadelphia Union’s first-ever trophy wait ended in 2020, and the Eastern Conference Club claimed Supporters’ Shield, which ended as a fairly impressive season.
Despite the end of the first round in the MLS Cup Playoffs, Jim Curtin’s side has taken another step in the right direction and has continued to develop well as a franchise over the past few seasons. Union also saw a good mix of youth and experience in the shortened regular season. And helped set the tone for hopeful and improved growth in 2021.
SBI reviewed each of Union’s 44 goals in 2020 and made it into the Top 5 list. The criteria used for the aggregation consisted of everything from overall aesthetics to the importance of the game, the difficulty level, and so on.
SBI’s top five Philadelphia Union goals for 2020 are:
Yamiro Monteiro vs Toronto FC, October 24th
Mark McKenzie vs. DC United, October 14th
Jacob Gresness vs LAFC, March 8th
5. Anthony Fontana vs. New England Revolution, September. 12th
Anthony Fontana celebrated the best season ever at the Philadelphia Union in 2020 and achieved the campaign’s best strike with the last two victories against the New England Revolution at home.
Fontana forced them to pay with a 95-minute stoptime winner as Revolution sat down and tried to score points at Subaru Park. Fontana was left wide open at the top of the rev box, allowing the midfielder to hit the screamer past the dive Matt Turner for a winning goal.

4. Brenden Aaronson vs. New York Red Bulls, September. The 6th
Brenden Aaronson was unable to play the hero in many games of the 2020 season, but achieved his best finish with a rival victory over the New York Red Bulls.
Aaronson eventually defeated Union 3-0, breaking the deadlock and passing Ryan Meila from the left post to strike. It was Aaronson’s little class who showed me what I could do in front of the goal if I had a chance.
Brenden Aaronson, rip current! 🔥

3. Jamiro Monteiro vs. Toronto fc, October. 24th
The Philadelphia Union’s best win of the 2020 season was against Toronto FC in October.
Yamiro Monteiro scored a third goal with a final 5-0 victory at Subaru Park. As a result, the Supporters’ Shield race was in favor of the Union. Monteiro was one of Jim Curtin’s top performers in 2020, demonstrating his long range shooting capabilities on missiles past Quentin Westberg.

2. Mark McKenzie vs. DC United, October 14th
Mark McKenzie, known for his defense and employment rate in 2020, scored a goal screamer for the US Men’s Defender in a 2-2 draw with DC United in October.
After seeing the lead slip down in the second half, Union was one point behind in Audi Field and Mackenzie scored his first career league goal. Mackenzie shot over 25 yards into the upper corner, keeping the union undefeated at that point.
Some great long-distance strikes tonight at MLS, including this from Mark McKenzie of Philadelphia (his first MLS goal).

1. jakob glesnes vs. lafc, March 8th
Talk about a great time to score your first MLS goal.
Jacob Gresness’s sensational strike against LAFC, the winner of Supporters’ Shield at the time, stole the headline as Union won a 3-3 draw at the Bank of California Stadium. Gresnes lined up free kicks from a distance of more than 30 yards and shot with his right foot in the upper corner over Kenneth Vermeer.
The coalition will eventually make a concession a minute later, but it did not deprive the Norwegians of their first real offensive efforts in MLS.
