Sebastien Loeb Certain BRXs can win off – Motorsports

Robe returns to Dakar after a year’s absence to command the new Bahrain Raid Extreme outfit. There will be 2015 winner Nani Roma.

A joint venture between British engineering firm Prodrive and a sovereign wealth fund in Bahrain has prepared a brand new candidate, the BRX1, with a custom 3.5-liter turbocharged petrol engine for its debut in Dakar next month in Saudi Arabia.

After the first shakedown in the UK, the BRX team successfully tested the desert in the Middle East in November, and Loeb was particularly impressed with the reliability of the 4×4 machine.

When the 43rd edition of the Dakar Rally kicks off on January 3, BRX will compete with defending champions X-Raid’s 4×4 and buggy, as well as Toyota’s Hilux pickup truck.

Asked if BRX can fight Toyota and X-raid, Loeb, the team that swept the top seven spots in the 2020 edition of the event, is still chasing his first Dakar victory-Motorsport.com I told you. , You will not be late.

“I always want to win, so the goal is to do my best, be ready and be able to compete. And, as I said, we couldn’t compare directly to other cars. [in performance] It’s a little difficult to know because there aren’t many kilometers.

“The car feels really good, I enjoy driving this rather than driving it [Peugeot] buggy. You have a lot of fun in the car when you are on some small trucks, and you can push it really hard.

“Now it’s hard to analyze what’s good. We have a good car, but we’ll see how it compares to the Dakar buggy.”

A longtime Citroën WRC driver, Robe drove his sister brand Peugeot as a factory driver between 2016 and 2018, slightly missing his second year’s first win with his teammate Stephane Peterhansel.

He remained in the rally as a privateer in 2019 after Peugeot was sent off, but was able to finish in third place behind Toyota champion Nasar Alatya and then X raid driver Rome. ..

Robe said he was very impressed with the facility when he visited the Prodrive factory and had the opportunity to build a project around him by joining a new team like BRX rather than existing costumes. I believe you can get it.

“Sure, go to an experienced team like Toyota at first, [private] Teaming up with a Peugeot car and knowing how it works, Prodrive really wanted to show me the project, “Robe asks why he signed a whole new team. I said when I was asked.

“I went there, saw the presentation and how to make a car, and realized that if I had to do a lot of work on the center of gravity and do a car, I would think exactly the same way. I didn’t know how to put it in.

“I also saw a lot of motivation. There are many possibilities to work and make new parts in a big factory. I was impressed by the seriousness of this project. Starting from scratch with such a new team I think it’s interesting to build a car around you and do what you want.

“I knew that the first year could be difficult, but I still have a lot to do, so it may have been the best solution.”
