Sega reveals that Virtua Racing was Japan’s most popular Sega Ages game and Sonic in the West – My Nintendo News

Sadly, with the end of the SEGA Ages Nintendo Switch series, Famitsu has many major behind the game, including Rieko Kodama (producer / director), Yosuke Okunari (supervisor), and Takeshi Matsuoka (M2 director). I caught up with the employee. The publication asked the team to find out which games in the revised retro series were most popular with switch owners. Virtua Racing turned out to be the most popular game in the Sega Ages series in Japan, and Sonic the Hedgehog turned out to be the most popular in the west. Here’s what the team had to say:

Looking back, which title has received the most feedback so far?

Kodama: It’s definitely Virtua Racing in Japan. I think everyone could see not only the number of units sold but also the technical capabilities of the M2. And I think it showed that Sega was already making the most advanced products (polygon games) at that time.

It is more diverse overseas. However, in terms of sales, Sonic the Hedgehog was by far the largest seller. The second most popular title was OutRun, which was especially popular in Europe.

Okusei: Following the release of the SEGA 3D Classics game, OutRun was highly regarded in Europe. In Japan, the two Puyo Puyo games have also received high praise. Some very loyal fans seem to have purchased the SEGA Ages installments for the game, even though they had the latest version.

Kodama: However, both overseas and in Japan, Virtua Racing has received a great deal of attention on social media.

Matsuoka: But when it comes to the number of tweets, Fantasy Zone was actually more popular than Virtua Racing. In addition to a dedicated fan base, the SEGA Ages version had a new time attack mode. It seemed to excite people very much in the game.
