Some Nintendo DS games are pulled from the 3D SE shop

Some DSiWare games are no longer available on the Nintendo 3DS eShop. The store page, including games published by Nintendo, has a disclaimer that says “This software is currently unavailable.”

“All DSiWare games released before mid-May 2011 have been deactivated in the e-shop, including the classic Shantae Risky’s Revenge.” Tweet From the user who first discovered the deletion. “Fortunately, I got it on the DSi before the store closed. If possible, get it from what’s still on sale!”

Removed games include Shantae: Risky’s Revenge, Dr. MarioExpress, Mr. Driller: Includes Drill Till You Drop and many more. Players can continue to access copies of these games and re-download them from the e-shop. However, if you have not purchased these titles, you cannot purchase or download them.

DSiWare is the name of the game or application purchased from the Nintendo DSi Shop. The digital storefront opened in 2009 and then closed in 2017. Some games were still available at the Nintendo eShop to this day. I’m not sure if these games will return to the e-shop or if this change is permanent. Nintendo has not yet issued an official statement.

As of September 2020, Nintendo 3DS has been successful with sales of approximately 76 million units. Nintendo’s focus on Nintendo Switch has depleted platform support in the last few years.
