Originally Epic Games Store-exclusive Mechwarrior 5: Mercenaries was available on other PC digital distribution platforms from December 10th, but developer Piranha Games has decided to postpone the release of the game until 2021.
The date is probably in line with Cyberpunk 2077, the biggest game of 2020, and the studio admits that it doesn’t want its own release to be hidden by the long-standing game under development of developer CD Projekt Red. ..
“Every developer wants to get as much attention as possible on the title, and sharing the release date with cyberpunk was clearly not optimal,” the studio said in a statement. “First-day sales and marketing are critical to a successful product launch. We believe that changing the release date schedule will give MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries the right opportunity and attention. . “
Mechwarrior 5: Mercenaries and its Hero of the Sphere DLC will instead appear in the Steam, GOG, EGS, Microsoft Store and Xbox consoles in the spring of 2021. Piranha Games takes advantage of the largest marketing initiative to date to get as much attention as possible towards the game.
The positive side effect of this delay is that the studio can further refine and improve Mechwarriors 5, add quality of life features, and further fine-tune the single-player experience.
Cyberpunk 2077 will be available next month on PC, Stadia, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series S / Series X.
A recent Night City Wire episode shows what the game will look like on Sony and Microsoft’s new consoles through backward compatibility, but a full-fledged next-generation upgrade will be available for free next year. For more information on the game, see Cyberpunk 2077 Preorder Guide.
