Stellantis Techno Reveal uses hydrogen fuel cell technology in medium-sized vans

The newly established Groupe PSA & Fiat Chrysler Automobiles Stellantis has unveiled early details on new hydrogen fuel cell (H2) and battery electric vehicle (BEV) technologies that power medium-sized vans.

The high-tech H2 & BEV-powered van will be the first left-hand drive available among the award-winning Peugeot e-Expert, Citroen e-Dispatch and Oper Vivalo-e. These new zero-emission vehicles follow the selection of electric vans from both the recently launched PSA and Fiat Professional. Other manufacturers and models within the broad Stellantis van family will soon benefit from these developments. By the end of 2021, Stellantis will allow customers to choose between 35 zero-emission vehicles and commercial models.

Xavier Peugeot, head of PSA’s light commercial vehicle division, is very pleased with orders for new medium-sized electric vans from Peugeot, Citroën, which have sold more than 7,500 units from Quattro products that won the recent International Van of the Year 2021. .. , Opel and Vauxhall brands.

For the development of this hydrogen fuel cell, Stellantis engineers, led by the Opel R & D division in Rüsselsheim, Germany, will work with H2 specialists Faurecia and Symbio to install a 45kW / 60bhp fuel cell stack underneath. We have introduced a “medium output” system. The bonnet, fueled by three hydrogen tanks, is mounted under the bed. To complete the dual system, a 10.5kWh battery pack is placed under the rechargeable seat. In addition, a maximum of 400km can be achieved by regeneration and deceleration. Its main advantage is that it only takes 3 minutes to refill a 4.4 kg H2 tank. There is no compromise in load capacity or load capacity. The payload is up to 1.1 tons. H2 technical training for manufacturing engineers is underway in Opel’s Special Vehicles division, with orders delivered shortly next December. Fiat Professional and Vauxhall variants may be launched with the advent of the second generation. And maybe Toyota, which supplies the van, soon.

Through its Opel brand, Stellantis has over 20 years of hydrogen fuel cell technology, and the cost factor focuses primarily on total cost of ownership. This will continue to decrease as the amount increases.
