Supercars open official pre-season tests to fans | Supercar News – Motorsports

The gate will be opened for official pre-season supercar testing at the Queensland Raceway and Winton.

The two tests were set up to take place in a closed room as part of a revision of the pre-season schedule after the all-in-tour of Sydney Motorsport Park was cancelled.

However, this category has since been told by QR and Winton operators that the gate will be open to fans.

However, it is restricted to public areas where there is no access to the paddock.

In short, the Mount Panorama 500 is the earliest opportunity for fans to return behind the garage. Following recent confirmation by category.

“The test dates for both supercars were initially planned to operate without fans due to current COVID compliance regulations,” a supercar spokeswoman said in a statement.

“Operators of both the Winton Raceway and the Queensland Raceway have confirmed to the supercar that they only have free access to the public zone if fans want to participate.

“Neither circuit has access to the paddock area or the back of the team’s garage at any time during both test days.

“Both venues will manage fan access accordingly and will be required to manage COVID traces upon entry.”

The Queensland Raceway test will take place on February 12th, with Triple Eight, Dick Johnson Racing, Matt Stone Racing and Team Sydney participating.

Tickford Racing, Erebus Motorsport, Blanchard Racing Team, Brad Jones Racing, Kelly Grove Racing, Team 18, and Walkinshaw Andretti United will be testing in Winton on February 16th.

Informal pre-season running will continue tomorrow on Phillip Island, with KGR, BRT and WAU all participating in Shakedown / Ride Day on Phillip Island.

Recently retired Rick Kelly will join KGR as part of a new test and rideday contract.

The supercar season is set to begin later this month on a trip to Bathurst for the new Mount Panorama 500 event from February 26th to 28th.
