US-based electric vehicle manufacturer Tesla started in 2021 as the official importer of vehicles to Israel. Sources have told Gloves that Tesla has licensed a commercial import of vehicles from the Ministry of Transport, allowing it to begin a full import business with unlimited quantities. To date, Tesla has been operating as a “small importer” in Israel and can import up to 20 vehicles, primarily for testing purposes. This is the first time an automaker has licensed a direct import and sale of a car in Israel, not through or in partnership with a local dealer.
The company will begin accepting orders online from Israeli customers within a few days, and subject to blockade conditions, the first Tesla vehicle is expected to arrive on Israeli roads within a few months. Tesla is currently researching special charging station sites and obtaining licenses for them. We are also working to promote the granting of permits to set up charging points in public buildings and residential buildings with multiple residents. Tesla’s road service is provided by Shagrir and customers are offered special insurance plans based on vehicle usage. Insurance is clearly provided through direct insurance.
Marketing in Israel will initially be on the Tesla Model 3 and will be available in several versions and driving ranges. The price hasn’t been announced yet, but the main version is probably the new basic version of the car, the Tesla Model 3 SR +, with a charging interval of about 440 km, which has recently begun to be sold at a discounted price in Europe. 40,000 euros including tax, pre-tax benefits. In Israel, depending on the version, Tesla Model 3 cars are expected to sell for NIS 250,000-350,000. In addition, a Tesla Y crossover model based on the Tesla Model 3 will arrive in Israel shortly for testing.
