As people grow older, they can experience a variety of biological changes that lead to loss of skeletal muscle mass, strength, and function.

Such losses reduce mobility and increase the risk of catastrophic events.

Strength and resistance training offers many health benefits and helps people deal with problems.

For example, one study found that strength training could improve the health of people over the age of 65.

Helps improve blood levels, muscle strength, and mental health. Even if older people train once a week, there are benefits.

A recent study published in the Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research suggests that resistance training is essential for improving the health and longevity of older people and should be part of their daily routine.

This statement provides evidence-based recommendations for resistance training for the elderly, or exercise focused on building muscle endurance.

The treatise is from the University of Michigan. One author is Dr. Malen Fragara.

In this treatise, the team discussed program design, physiological adaptation, functional benefits, and considerations for flail, sarcopenia, and other chronic illnesses.

The statement also includes suggestions on the type, frequency and intensity of training, patient groups that need to be adapted for training, and how to adapt the training program to older people with disabilities.

According to the team, too few older Americans participate in resistance training, primarily due to fear, confusion, and lack of consensus to guide implementation.

This consensus statement can have a positive impact on empowering a healthier aging population.
