This mod adds Half-Life: Alyx gravity gloves to Skyrim VR

Half-Life: Alyx’s gravity gloves have ruined many other virtual reality games. By being able to turn the object over, it solved many of the annoying manipulation issues common in other games. After the elegance of the Half-Life system, it’s difficult to bend, avoid, or grab in the air to pick up items. To make matters worse, there is no conflict in the hands with the surrounding world.

Enter the modder. Specifically, enter the modderFlyingParticle that released HIGGSVR for SkyrimVR. A mod that adds gravity glove-style interactions to Skyrim and looks beautifully working.

HIGGS stands for Skyrim’s Hand Interaction and Gravity Gloves. Focusing on VR, YouTuberCangar has created the following video to showcase the mod’s capabilities. This includes everything you would expect from an Alyx-inspired mod.

You can point to the items and flip them over in your hand. You can now use your hands to move things on the table. The in-game hand can grab the model in its natural position and hold the bottle from any point along the base, tip, or side, for example. You can now drop items over your shoulder and put them in your pocket, a common feature in many first-person VR games. You can use this system to remove armor from defeated enemies. It also works with Skyrim’s theft system, highlighting the thief’s branded object in red.

There are some differences between this implementation and Half-Life: Alyx. One is to point your palm at the object and pull it towards you. You can imagine getting used to it. It contains an .ini file, but you can fine-tune some of the settings to your liking.

Instructions on how to install and set up HIGGS VR can be found on the mod’s Nexus Mods page. We recommend downloading VRIKmod for the full experience seen in the video above. This will give you in-game body and finger animations to grab the object.
