Liverpool FC Women 2-1 Blackburn Ladies
WSL Cup (3), Prenton Park
November 17, 2021
the goal: Bailey 29′, Hind 50′; Hodgson 85′
It was a big moment for 20-year-old Kerns and led her childhood due to the WSL Cup clash at the midfielder’s historic Plenton Park.
When manager Matt Beard gave her an armband in the absence of Niamh Fahy, the young Scouse became the youngest woman in history for a Liverpool captain.
She was watching from the stand with her fellow scouse, Alexander Arnold. Both have the potential to become the club’s permanent captain in the coming years.
Kerns also played a valuable role in winning the Liverpool Cup, with her two corners leading to goals for Jade Bailey and Taylor Hynes.
In the first match, half-time substitute Hind headed for the near post five minutes after Blackburn goalkeeper Alexandra Brooks tampered with the ball and allowed Bailey to return home.
Both teams had a 2-0 chance, Blackburn returned one point to Amy Hodgson, but Liverpool was able to maintain three points.
The Reds are not only at the top of the women’s championships, but also at the top of the group in the WSL Cup, with so far a win and two draws.
It was a memorable day for Kerns, who was named to a team under the age of 23 in England a few hours before the kick-off and midfielder accessed Twitter after the match.

“We both joined Liverpool at about the same time. It’s great to see him doing so well, and we’ve come together so far,” she said.
“It’s great that one is on the male side and I’m on the female side. We’ve basically been on the same journey. It’s nice to see.
“It’s absolutely certain to see Curtis being part of our first team.”
The heritage of Scouse is strong in Liverpool and will continue for a long time in Alexander Arnold, Jones, Kerns and others.
