Boxing star Tyson Fury has revealed that he was to face Drew McIntyre at PPV in the UK last year.
There hasn’t been a UK-only main roster PPV at the WWE Insurextion event since 2003, but that might have changed without the COVID-19 pandemic.
Fury, who competed with Braun Strowman in the WWE ring at the 2019 WWE Crown Jewel Event, was actually planning to make more appearances at the company. When talking to Behind the glove, Gipsy Kings revealed that he intended to appear in both WWE SummerSlam and WrestleMania, culminating in a match against Drew McIntyre.
“Last year I was supposed to go to SummerSlam, last year I was going to WrestleMania and I was supposed to fight Drew McIntyre at a PPV event in England, but thanks to COVID it’s nothing. It didn’t happen. So COVID gave me a PPV with SummerSlam, Royal Rumble, Drew McIntyre, [Deontay] Wilder’s rematch, and [Anthony] Battle of Joshua. So thank you for COVID [laughs]..
