UK Switch sales almost doubled in 2020 for the PS5 and Xbox series combined

Nintendo is reported to have sold 1.5 million switch consoles in the UK in 2020. This was almost double the total number of PS5 and Xbox Series X / S units sold last year.

According to GfK sales data released by the Entertainment Retailers Association and republished by, 2020 will be a stronger year for all three console makers than 2019.

Switch sales increased by more than 50% year-on-year, from less than 1 million units in 2020 to 1.5 million units.

Sony sold 450,000 PS5 consoles and 450,000 PS4s annually, bringing the total sales to about 900,000. This is an increase from the 2019 PS4 sales of 700,000 units.

In 2020, about 310,000 Xbox Series X / S consoles and 290,000 Xbox One consoles totaled about 600,000 units, up from the 2019 Xbox One 500,000 units.

This means that, as previously reported, Switch sold nearly as many units in the UK last year as the PS5, PS4, Xbox Series S / X, and Xbox One combined.

As of December 31, 2020, Xbox Series X / S shipped more than one million units over PS5, according to prominent industry analysts.

It’s worth noting that since its launch, Sony and Microsoft’s new console sales have been severely constrained by supply issues that are expected to continue for some time.

The Entertainment Retailers Association announced in January the UK’s best-selling 2020 game. The top 10 were led by FIFA 21 (2,182,694), Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War (1,420,353) and Grand Theft Auto V (1,127,222).
