VALORANT: A Beginner’s Guide to Peeker’s Advantage and Its Counters

Peeker’s advantage is one of the more complex and divisive tactics in VALORANT.

But first and foremost, what is the peeker’s advantage? is. But if you ask Riot, it’s “the relationship between the peeker’s reaction time and the maximum time the owner can react before being killed.”

In a nutshell, the player looking in has a slight but impactful advantage over the opponent holding the angle, hence the name. The holder has less time to react and fire a shot compared to another player looking in. As a result, the peaker’s shot is prioritized by the game’s servers compared to the angle owner’s shot, even though the angle owner should have the advantage.

Will Peeker’s Advantage exist in VALORANT?

yes. Unfortunately, any online shooter has his Peeker advantage as it relies on an internet connection.

Interestingly, this term may not be 100% accurate. Pecker ping is not important. Rather, it is that of defenders and holders. According to Riot Games staff software engineer Matt deWet, “Server processing of shots fired by a peaker is delayed by the same amount as the peaker’s movement.” recorded, the shot and subsequent damage are also recorded with a delay. This does not change the time the target has to react when shot.

Is angle hold useless in VALORANT?

If angle holders are at a disadvantage, does that mean holding angles isn’t very useful in VALORANT? Not necessarily. In all scenarios, maintaining an angle is a better way to surprise and hopefully kill enemy players. This fleeting advantage of having the enemy spotted and ready to shoot first helps ensure that you come out on top of the deal.

Of course, voyeurism has an advantage in VALORANT, but it’s not as pronounced as it is in other shooters. Do not stand still when holding an angle. Not only does it move left and right, but it is constantly shaken by the counter strafe.

Does playing with high ping make you better in VALORANT?

not really. Low latency is excellent in 99% of cases. A player’s actions are sent to the game’s servers much faster when the latency is low compared to opponents with high latency. The only problem is that higher ping is “better” if you want to abuse the advantage of peekers. This is known as lag switching or asymmetric lag, which Riot describes as “high latency to the server, low latency to the client.” In this case, you get more of a peak advantage as a high ping player than a low ping opponent.

Riot has admitted that this is partly their fault.

Does the Peeping Advantage negatively affect gameplay?

Now comes the interesting part. There is a group of players who believe that having a peaker advantage is not a bad thing.

A good example is Jonathan “EliGE” Jablonowski, who plays Counter-Strike: Global Offensive professionally for Team Liquid. While streaming VALORANT, Rifler explained that it was “impossible” to eliminate the advantage of Peaker. EliGE describes it as a “pusher advantage” and the community just doesn’t get it.

EliGE adds that pushing the player often has a voyeuristic advantage because the player is in motion and pre-aimed at a specific location. Finally, EliGE believes the peaker’s advantage is just an excuse people use when they’re “peeped at and destroyed” when they have an angle instead.

EliGE’s reasoning isn’t necessarily wrong, and it’s not reasonable to blame everything on small ping differences.

How to counter the Peeping Advantage in VALORANT

  • Do not hold 90 degree angles

A 90 degree or vertical angle is when the opponent peaks or when the line of sight is kept directly in place. This is a bad angle to hold because the peaker is moving horizontally, which makes it look “faster”. Also, while holding this position, your options are limited while your opponent has multiple peaks available. It’s still possible to get kills at this angle, but it’s best to keep the “corner-to-corner” angle.

  • try different angles

Spying/Attackers usually pre-target specific angles and positions while pressing. The best way to combat this is to put yourself in an unusual location where you can take advantage of off-angles. This can mean less cover than usual, but you can jump and jump on enemies.

What is Riot doing to counter Peeker’s advantage in VALORANT?

Peeker’s advantage is netcode and latency issues, so Riot does a lot to minimize the problem. This is a quick rundown of what Riot has done to address the often unwelcome feature.

  • We’re looking into doing the necessary animation blending updates so that the ‘run’ to ‘stand’ animation doesn’t lag.
  • We plan to fix the “corpse block” so that players always have vision of enemies even after they’ve been killed.
  • By “delaying” a player’s death by a few milliseconds, you can see what the player who killed you is doing.
  • To get rid of the 7.8125 milliseconds of asynchrony, we might introduce a “no” remote interdelay at the expense of “player pops” for players with packet loss.

Is it possible to eliminate the peaker advantage?

Perhaps Riot and other developers will find ways in the future to remove the so-called snooping advantage of playing online. The best solution for now is to play at LAN events where ping discrepancies are not an issue.

Conclusion

Peeker’s advantage extends to all shooters, including VALORANT. The best way to “counteract” and take advantage of voyeurism is to learn the right angles. Experiment with the positions and angles you hold and where you aim beforehand to always be at least one step (or bullet) ahead of your opponent.
