Valve’s Gabe Newell is about to launch a garden gnome into space for charity.

The gnome is a homage to the Little Rocket Man achievement in Half-Life 2: Episode 2. In this achievement, the game required a garden gnome, Gnome Chompski, to be carried and deposited on a rocket ship.

Newell is doing this to raise money for the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at Starship, a pediatric hospital in Auckland, New Zealand.

According to PCgamesN, Rocket Lab will use Electron’s kickstage to put a 150mm titanium garden gnome into orbit. The little companion will be created by Wellington’s Weta Workshop and will be launched into space as part of Flight 16. The main purpose of this flight is to install 30 satellites in space.

According to the press release, the flight will be live streamed and Newell will donate $ 1 to Starship to everyone who watches live or within 24 hours of takeoff.

The release date is undecided, but it will be held within two weeks from November 15th.
