Nintendo’s latest indie world showcase was a big one, and while we were busy watching it, an exciting new game fell into the system. Dicey Dungeons, the latest game from VVVVVV and Super Hexagon creator Terry Cavanagh, is now available on Nintendo Switch.
In Dicey Dungeons, players choose from a large number of playable dice characters, all of which have their own abilities. As you move between nodes at each level, you will encounter different enemies. Combat is based on rolling dice with Yahtzee-like rules. You can roll the dice with the corresponding attack, or roll the dice several times to get the number that suits your ability. As you go, you can power up and redesignate your dice, and if you die you will have to start over.
The game costs $ 15 on Switch and currently has a 10% discount enabled.
It’s also worth noting that there is a bug in the game right now that you can’t slow down the animation and then speed it up again. This will be patched, but there are currently workarounds available for this issue.
Dicey Dungeons received 7/10 in GameSpot reviews. “Dice dungeons are a fascinating and often rewarding game, as long as you learn to accept that dice may not roll,” the review said.
