When finishing up a Warframe I couldn’t help thinking about the journey that led us here to launch on the PlayStation 5 this Thursday. Warframe’s experience has always been about your relationship, the emperor.
Your love for bullet jumps that came from a player’s favorite bug called the copter ring. Your endless desire to play as Umbra is a simple skin that inspired us to transform into one of the game’s best movie stories. Your artistic passion for customization, incorporating player-created artwork into Warframe as TennoGen. Your dedication kept us working late into the night and made Warframe great for you.
That’s why I feel it’s so important to enter the PlayStation 5 era. For us, that means bringing nearly eight years of evolutionary content to the future of PS5. This means that new players will experience Warframe for free from the start with a new graphics engine up to 60fps and 4K. This means that PS4 players will seamlessly move to a whole new generation. And that means all the friends you stick with, with PS4 and PS5 gamers playing together in a timeless play.
The plains of Eidolon, one of Warframe’s three open worlds, are in the glory of the next generation!
In 2013 we were a game punk rocker
Initially, we were a small team with a Space-Ninja game that attracted modest but enthusiastic fans. It was just released on a PC, but the PS4, the next-generation console at the time, was just around the corner.
I can’t talk to anyone else, but for me it was very exciting to show Warframe for the first time at E3. Sony allowed the booth to secure space. They played our trailer on a huge two-story screen. Our little punk rock show was the biggest stage of the game. I remember going into the show, watching the trailer and feeling chills. Kojima-san was also watching!
We’ve come a long way from the original E3 PS4 launch trailer.
In the first two weeks of its November launch, there were over 300,000 new players. By the end of January we had over a million people. Today, in almost seven years until that day, we have over 60 million people and are launching the next generation again. It’s still as hard as it was then, but I’m more excited to work for you than ever before.
Wake up the emperor and get up
Warframe has always started with you, the lonely emperor, and woke up from generations of sleep. The world and its past, the mystery to discover. At first, our story was driven by simple things: item descriptions and environments. But we always had much greater ambitions.
In 2015, you had to wake up again in our first movie quest, The Second Dream. As I gladly watched your reaction to this winding story, the entire studio was nervously clinging to the screen. I felt like I was taking a lot of risk back then, but now it’s one of the clearest moments in my career. And a long-standing stamp of pride, the protection of our community of secrets within the quest.
All these updates (Second Dream, The War Within, The Sacrifice) quickly became a fan favorite. And finally, on PS5, we’re bringing you the next chapter in the story, The New War. A story of almost 10 years being created.
The teaser trailer alone must be kept secret.
When Warframe opens
In the summer of 2017, we once again surprised players by unveiling the plains of Eidolon, the first open world. Seeing your cheers and excitement alive when the Cetus door opened, the same chills came back from the E3 PS4 four years ago. Only now we were at our own fan convention, TennoCon! And for some reason, thousands of you flew to us to see us on our own stage. No one must have expected fishing.
Fast-forwarding for the PS5 release, Warframe has three open worlds that look better and load faster than ever before. Our enhanced renderers are truly shining here, bringing dynamic lighting and making each world more immersive than ever. And now that we’re building content from scratch to take advantage of this technology, we can’t wait for you to experience our next open world, Dubili’s paradox, On PlayStation5.
The production of this trailer did not harm the real fish.
Released on PS5, you’ll be able to master 44 Warframes, each with their own unique abilities and playstyles for free. But I’m particularly proud of Xaku. Xaku is the 44th and latest Warframe released this fall. This is because it’s also the second Warframe built from scratch by the community.
When I first started using the four Warframes, I didn’t know how to reach 20, let alone 44. There is also Octavia. Its abilities are built around an in-game music sequencer that allows you to create and share songs with the community. But with your inspiration, we did it!
Zaku kills in a stunning undead style with Deimos.
PS5 or later
Many things come to mind when we look to the future.
I can’t wait to hear the opinions of the players after playing Warframe for the first time on PS5. Eliminate hordes of enemies with a butter-smooth frame rate and jump quickly to each mission. Experience with new and enhanced renderers that amaze the story and the world, and adaptive triggers that make combat even more immersive. I can’t wait to play with you!
Available on PlayStation 5 on Thursday, November 26th.
