This companion considers it foolish to expect world leaders to do substantive things about climate change. I admit that this is a very complicated situation, but I’m not too pessimistic. In the first place, solving climate problems in a way that allows India and China to freely burn all the coal available is not a solution at all. We reduce emissions on a planetary basis or are literally cooked.
Some world leaders are good people and want to do the right thing. Of course, others are criminal social illnesses. We also need to confront that fact.
Many world leaders will find that they are under great pressure from their members to take effective action, but on the other hand (and unfortunately there is always an “other move”). Isn’t it?), They are under pressure from the fossil fuel industry and do nothing.
Big oil will eventually lose here. Their power is great, but limited, and people’s power is virtually unlimited. Because we have 8 billion people and only a few percent of us are currently active. That number is growing every day.
In addition, market economics is putting pressure on fossil fuel boys as the costs of renewable energy, energy storage, electricity transport, and efficiency solutions are all declining rapidly.
I think it’s clear that we’ll get there. “On the other hand” are we going to get there on time?
