Shweta Sharma is a senior software engineer working hard to build a robust and vibrant economy at Roblox. Here’s what she likes most about her role and how it affects the global community.
Describe your role here at Roblox.
I work for an economy team, especially dealing with payments and fraud. The economy team handles all transactions (real money and cryptocurrencies) that occur at Roblox. He is also responsible for fraud prevention, trading, subscriptions, developer monetization (via Premium Payouts and Developer Exchange programs), and advertising.
What is one of the most interesting aspects of working on your team at Roblox?
Having an economy is an important part of building a metaverse. The economy team is working on a very fun way to create value for the creator community. This will increase your engagement with the platform. Incentives like premium payouts allow developers to create a better experience for their users while at the same time building a sustainable business for them! It’s really nice to see developers who don’t monetize their experience make money based on user engagement.
It’s also interesting to see different payment methods and customs in different countries as we continue to expand globally. We are constantly working to create solutions for seamless integration of local payment providers.
How does your experience with Roblox’s economy team differ from other roles so far?
There are some things that stand out from the other roles I had in the past. One of them is the company’s long-term vision. The company has grown significantly since I started. I also grew up as an engineer. The amount of learning at Roblox for 2.5 years is 10 times that of other roles. This is primarily because we are in such an innovative area, pioneering the many technologies that make up the Metaverse. Not only that, the company’s vision continues to grow as it adds innovative features and components to the platform. It’s always great to be in a company that isn’t in maintenance mode but is constantly innovating new solutions.
The second is the level of transparency from the leader. This gives employees a stronger sense of ownership of the company. The weekly AMA between Town Hall and the CEO (Ask Anything) is a great way to feel connected and ask questions about leader decisions.
What is one of your favorite things about Roblox culture?
Roblox’s culture is very friendly and helpful. During my first few weeks, when I asked questions, people from different teams were always willing to help me. This was great because it shows how much everyone cares about the whole company. Similarly, everyone is enthusiastic about getting to know everyone, even if their work functions are not duplicated. When we weren’t working from home, we from different teams had lunch together and played board games. And while working from home, it’s always great to see such positive comments and reactions from everyone on Slack’s #townhall channel!
