Xbox Series X is backward compatible with PS2

New emulation software can run PS2 games on the new It’s an Xbox console, but it’s still under development and may not be completely legal.

One of the key features of the Xbox Series X / S is backward compatibility. This allows the console to play almost any game run in Xbox One and earlier Xbox formats.

But now it has been discovered that Xbox owners can also play PlayStation 2 games via emulation software.

As detailed in the Modern Vintage Gamer video, RetroArch’s PlayStation 2 emulator (which specializes in free cross-platform emulators) can be run on the console by tinkering with developer mode.

Developer mode is also available on Xbox One, allowing you to develop your own software using the console.

The video shows footage of various PlayStation 2 games playing on the Xbox Series S, including the original God of War, Metal Gear Solid 2, Wanda and the Colossus. All of these seem to work very smoothly for the most part.

But it’s not perfect. The video shows that you may run bugs and stability issues when running these games, and the emulator is limited to 2GB, so you can’t run particularly large games.

You might want to test this yourself (especially because the Xbox Series X / S can theoretically play games from other consoles such as the GameCube and PlayStation Portable), but when you run the emulation software, Microsoft’s You are more likely to violate our Terms of Service.

The PlayStation 5 patent, discovered in July, suggests that Sony intends to extend backward compatibility of consoles through cloud-based systems.

It’s essentially its own emulator, allowing you to play games from PlayStation 1, 2, and 3, but there is no official statement from Sony.

For now, PlayStation 5 can only play most of the PlayStation 4 games, but it also has additional benefits such as increased frame rates.

Xbox Series X and S are now available.
