Monopoly Movie: LuckyChap Entertainment, Founded by Margot Robbie, Set to Produce Film

After more than a decade of development, the Monopoly movie project has taken a significant step forward with the announcement that Margot Robbie’s production company, LuckyChap Entertainment, will be producing it. Alongside LuckyChap, Hasbro Entertainment, a division of the renowned American toy company, will also serve as a producer for the film.

LuckyChap Entertainment, known for its recent work on Saltburn and the successful 2023 film Barbie, which starred Margot Robbie herself, brings a wealth of experience and creativity to the project. Robbie, in a conversation with Variety in February, expressed her desire to continue creating impactful films like Barbie, emphasizing the importance of pursuing original and bold ideas with strong filmmaker collaboration and substantial budgets.

Adam Fogelson, chairman of Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, expressed immense enthusiasm for the Monopoly movie, believing it has the potential to become a blockbuster hit. Similarly, Zev Foreman, head of film for Hasbro Entertainment, highlighted Monopoly’s iconic status as a globally recognized game, offering vast storytelling possibilities for the film adaptation.

Lionsgate’s involvement in the Monopoly movie project stems from their extended development rights to the board game, acquired when they purchased Hasbro’s Entertainment One (eOne) in December. Barbie, another Hasbro property, proved to be a massive success in 2023, becoming the highest-grossing film of the year with a global box office revenue of $1.38 billion.

Monopoly, a perennial favorite among board game enthusiasts, has captured the imaginations of generations with its gameplay centered around property acquisition and strategic financial maneuvering. Originally patented in 1904 by Lizzy Magie under the title “The Landlord’s Game,” it underwent several transformations before emerging as the Monopoly we know today. Its popularity soared during the Great Depression in the United States, cementing its status as a cultural icon.

With the combined creative forces of LuckyChap Entertainment, Hasbro Entertainment, and Lionsgate, the Monopoly movie promises to deliver an exciting cinematic experience that honors the beloved board game’s legacy while offering a fresh perspective for audiences worldwide.
